Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that you cannot see, smell or taste. It is found in nearly all soils. It is produced during the radioactive decaying process of the uranium that has been present in the earth’s crust since the earth was formed.
Radon is the main source of potentially harmful radiation to which the average American is exposed and it is found nearly everywhere. The Environmental Protection Agency states that long-term exposure to radon in either air or water causes cancer, primarily of the lungs or stomach. The agency also recommends radon testing of the air and water in your home.
